Description: Sergeant Vassallo was struck by a vehicle and killed while checking on a driver involved in a minor vehicle crash. Sergeant Vassallo was travelling to work in full uniform when she rear-ended a vehicle. Both vehicles stopped and Sergeant Vassallo exited her vehicle to check on the status of the other driver. While on the passenger side of the vehicle, Sergeant Vassallo made contact with the driver, who complained of neck pain. Sergeant Vassallo radioed for an ambulance to assist the driver. While still outside of the vehicle, a third vehicle approached the accident scene at a high rate of speed, swerved to the right to avoid the vehicles and struck Sergeant Vassallo. Sergeant Vassallo was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
