Description: Marshal Whitney, along with fellow law enforcement officers, surrounded a residence where two robbers were hiding. The officers entered the house and a gunfight began. Marshall Whitney was shot in the chest and died at the scene. The first robber was arrested after the shoot-out but died shortly after. The second robber escaped but was captured by lawmen and lynched by a mob.
