Description: On the evening of September 8, 1900, a tremendous hurricane struck the Galveston, Texas area. More than five thousand citizens lost entire families and properties during this hurricane. The Galveston Police Department lost more than half of their department in the storm. Officers Wolfe, Samuel Tovrea, F.L. Richards and Adolph Howe were killed in the storm as they attempted to rescue several families trapped in the downtown area. Officer Wolfe's wife and one of his three children were also killed in this incident.
