Description: Deputy Walthers and his partner Deputy Alvin Maddox went to a motel to question an escaped convict and a man suspected of a double murder. When the two deputies entered the room, Deputy Walthers was shot dead by the suspect. Two people were arrested. Deputy Walther?s assailant was convicted of murder with malice and sentenced to die in the electric chair. His sentence was commuted to life in prison and he died in the Coffield Unit of the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville Texas in 1981 of a heart attack. The second suspect pled guilty to murder without malice and attempted murder. She was sentenced to prison and pardoned in 1986.
