Description: Patrolman Wheeler and his partner Patrolman H.D. Murphy were shot by Bonnie and Clyde as they approached what they thought was a disabled vehicle. The Bonnie and Clyde gang was responsible for the deaths of seven other officers between 1932 and 1934: Constable William Campbell, Prison Guard Joe Crowson, Deputy Malcolm Davis, Constable J.W. Harryman, Marshal H.D. Humphrey, Detective Harry McGinnis and Deputy Eugene Moore. Bonnie & Clyde were ambushed and killed by a posse of law enforcement officers on May 23, 1934.
