Description: Private Woodruff was mortally wounded as Army troops and Rangers attempted to stop a raid. The Rangers and Army troops became engaged in an exchange of gunfire with Cortina and his band of outlaws who were attempting to capture the steamboat, Ranchero. This incident was a part of a series of events that became known as the Cortina War.
