Description: Detective Ward was attempting to arrest a motel burglary suspect when a struggle broke out. As the two struggled in the hotel courtyard located at 39th and Portland, the burglar gained control of Ward's service revolver. Ward was shot to death with his own weapon. The suspect fled the scene and was arrested several days later and sentenced to 199 years in prison.
