Description: Deputy Marshal Wellman was shot and killed in an ambush in Buffalo, Wyoming. Marshal Wellman set out from a ranch in Wyoming to investigate the "Johnson County War". Marshall Wellman and two other officers were ambushed by bandits about 30 miles outside the city. In the gunfight Marshall Wellman was killed, the bandits escaped and were never found.
