Description: Deputy Whitman was a part of a stake-out team to capture a serial neighborhood burglar. The burglar, realizing he was surrounded, attempted to escape by shooting his way free. Deputy Whitman was struck and died at the scene. His assailant was found guilty of murder but was pardoned by the Governor after serving only seven years of a life sentence.
