Description: Sergeant wars was shot as he attempted to apprehend an escaped convict. Guard Jim Jeter was overpowered by a group of convicts at the Imperial State Prison farm in Fort Bend County. The convicts took his handgun and shotgun. As Sergeant Ward came to Guard Jeter's defense he was shot in the head by one of the convicts. Sergeant Ward fell from his horse and was shot again in the throat. The convicts fled the scene but were captured. Two of the convicts were sentenced to life in prison.
