Description: Special Agents Whitted and Edwin Shane were shot when they came upon a burglary in progress and attempted to arrest the suspects. Agents Whitted and Shane had boarded the train at Bland, Missouri and began an inspection of the freight cars when they came upon the thieves. A running gun battle ensued and Agents Whitted and Shane were fatally shot. Four suspects were arrested. The shooter was convicted of murder and executed by hanging.
