Description: Deputy Marshal Wilson was killed while attempting to arrest a suspect near Tahlequah, Indian Territory. During the arrest the two parties exchanged shots and Deputy Marshal Wilson was shot in the side. The suspect and another man fled the scene, but returned the next day, beat Deputy Marshal Wilson with a piece of firewood and axe, and buried his body in a ravine. The two suspects turned themselves in days later. One of the suspects was sentenced to death but was later given 5 years in prison after appealing his sentence. The other suspect was acquitted.
