Description: Police Officer Wilkins accidentally shot himself as he attempted to install a rubber grip on his service pistol in his patrol car. Officer Wilkins removed the magazine from his pistol but unknowingly left a bullet in the chamber. The weapon discharged and struck Officer Wilkins in the face as he installed the rubber grip. A nearby officer called for assistance and provided aid, but Officer Wilkins succumbed to his injury minutes later.
