Description: Deputy Wright and Patrolman William Bell, of the Summerville Police Department, were struck and killed by a drunk driver on US 17A. Both officers had pulled their department cruisers over to assist a disabled motorist who was attempting to change a flat tire. The suspect truck driver, who was driving under the influence, slammed his truck into both officers and killed them instantly. Deputy Wright died of a fractured skull and Deputy Bell died of a broken neck.
