Description: Correctional Officer Walters was shot with his own gun during an escape attempt by two inmates on a road work crew. Officer Walters was attacked and disarmed by the inmates who then shot him in the head. Officer Walters died at the scene. The inmates escaped and fled to Michigan. One inmate was shot and killed by law enforcement officers. The second inmate was recaptured and convicted of murder.
