Description: Officer Welch was shot on June 24, 1866 by a soldier who was causing a disturbance. As Officer Welch escorted the soldier out of the beer hall, the soldier pulled a revolver and shot him. The soldier was taken into custody but later escaped. Officer Welch died of his injuries two months later on August 17, 1866.
