Description: Captain Willdridge was in charge of a police detail maintaining order among a group of 500 female telephone workers who were on strike. The workers established a picket line in front of the company office and engaged in skirmishes with police throughout the day. Captain Willdridge and a squad of six officers went to the aid of a woman who was mistaken for a supervisor by the strikers and was being shoved back and forth. Captain Willdridge rescued the woman, brought her to safety and then collapsed. Captain Willdridge was transported to the hospital where he died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
