Description: Deputy U.S. Marshal Watts and a posse of lawmen attempted to arrest a gang of outlaws in Juneau, AK, who had broken into a jail and released an inmate. The lawmen surrounded the remote cabin on Admiralty Island and ordered the occupants to surrender. The order was answered with a barrage of gunfire. Deputy Watts was shot in the leg and died. Deputy Marshal William Hale and two other members of the posse were also wounded but survived. The suspects were arrested.
