Description: Special Agent Zapata was shot and killed in Mexico while assigned to the U.S. Embassy. Special Agent Zapata and Special Agent Victor Avila were ambushed by members of a drug gang while driving between Monterrey, Mexico and Mexico City. Both agents, who were unarmed, were shot multiple times by suspects wielding automatic weapons. Special Agent Zapata was killed and Special Agent Avila was wounded.
